On our walk around today we found a few different fruits in season. We wonder if you know them. At least we succeeded in taking a nice walk and a few photos. That's what we set out to do and we managed it. Unlike Andy Murray in Cincinnati who set out to make the semi-finals but was beaten in two sets....

Even young people....

When viewing life on the beach we often see people caring for each other, mothers and fathers caring for children, children caring for pets and siblings, elders being looked after by their older children. Yesterday we saw this older couple caring for each other....
We were quite surprised when this young lady came running in from the lake after a swim and threw herself wet and dripping onto her boyfriend's knee! I think they may have just arrived by Greyhound Bus and gone straight down to the beach!

All the world loves a parade! This week-end it is the Peach Festival in Penticton, and here are a few images. Parades are many things, including a display of young beauty, a chance to dress up funny and fool around, and an opportunity to try and sell something, or promote a religion. I liked the chain saw float and the yoga and the brass bands best. Enjoy!

Ruins

Why are we so obsessed with ruins? It has been going on at least since the 18th Century in travel, art, and of course much longer in Archeology. Even Shakespeare was writing about ruins before that.There were even people who built "Ruins" for decoration of their property!
In photography we like the textures of age, especially on the surfaces of buildings. If there isn't enough we add it using filters and digital enhancement like HDR. We seem to be obsessed with "patina."

Hodology

Hodology is the study of pathways. Could be in the brain, in psychology, in philosophy etc but today it is about walking, wayfaring, travelling, on paths, lanes, roads, holloways. drove roads, green lanes, coffin routes, pilgrim tracks, and so on. Today we explored a narrow gravel road between Penticton and Summerland called Shingle Creek Road, because it went beside the creek, which eventually joined Trout Creek in Summerland, about twenty kilometres away. Pathways are means of connecting, and never having been on this one before, we had to have faith that it did connect eventually! Our map showed that it did, but various unmarked forks had to be decided upon. It would have been better to walk on a path, rather than drive, in order "to better think and write". Good advice for bloggers. One such was Edward Thomas, a compulsive wayfarer and poet, who lived for only 39 years before being killed as a soldier in France in 1917. He wrote:
                                                                           "The hill-road wet with rain
                                                                             In the sun would not gleam,
                                                                             Like a winding stream
                                                                             If we trod it not again"

What is your outdoor activity this summer? We have had several problems here already-: a drowned seventy three year old paddle-boarder in Okanagan Lake, a lost twelve-year old girl in Skaha Lake, and a couple of fractured lumbar vertebrae in youths jumping off a cliff into another lake, not to mention two rock-climbers falling to their deaths in Canmore ( they didn't have their ropes safe. )
So here are a few images of the good things that go on around here in summer, just to balance things out!
